
SURAT, April 30: Water Supply Minister Narottambhai Patel said the State government’s decision to give 25 per cent relief in power bill to consumers using up to 100 units would benefit more than 2.15 lakh consumers. The relief would cost the government Rs 116 crore.
He stated this while inaugurating a function organised by the Gujarat Electricity Board to highlight its achievements, to make people aware of steps taken by it for consumer welfare and the present electricity scenario, at the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) premises on Tuesday.
To apprise people all over the state of the GEB’s welfare schemes such programmes would be held at 47 places, he said, adding the government would take steps to tone up administration of the state-owned electricity board.
He admitted that consumers had to pay for administrative lapses. The State government was making efforts to supply regular power to farmers spread over 18,000 villages and industries.
South Gujarat Special Superintending Engineer of GEB S V Parikh, Surat’s Superintending Engineer J V Prajapati and Executive Engineer R B Bilimoria were among those who spoke on the occasion. Industrialists and experts were present in the function.
