S.A.S. NAGAR, May 8: The Punjab Police Service Welfare Association has demanded the formation of a separate cadre for the officers and recognition to the posts of Superintendent of Police through promotions.
A delegation comprising representatives of the association met Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday and apprised him of their grievances. The delegation told the Chief Minister that when DSPs were promoted to the rank of SPs after the completion of 6 years of continuous service, they were made officiating SPs in the existing pay scales of DSPs with only additional pay of Rs 200 per month towards higher responsibility."There is neither any post of SP nor any pay scale for PPS officers on promotion as SP," the delegation members asserted.
Association president and Mohali SP B.S. Randhawa urged the Chief Minister to increase the promotion quota for PPS officers as per the latest decision of CAT regarding All India Services which had been approved by the Apex Court. He urged the CM that PPS officers should be given senior scale of Rs 3,000-4,500 in the pre-revised pay structure.
The delegation further pleaded that PPS officers should be kept at par with PCS (Executive branch) as people for these two categories were recruited by Punjab Public Service Commission with same qualifications and pay scales.
The delegation also demanded selection grade to PPS officers after 12 years of service against the existing 18 years of service.
