Prakash inches closer to Wimbledon main draw

Amritraj, ranked 311 in the ATP charts, beat his opponent from Monaco to advance to the second round.

Davis Cupper Prakash Amritraj moved a step ahead to qualify for the Wimbledon Championships after defeating Jean-Rene Lisnard in straight sets in the first round of men’s singles qualifying competition.

Amritraj, ranked 311 in the ATP charts, beat his opponent from Monaco 6-2 7-6 (4) to advance to the second round.

Lisnard is currently ranked 218 and even reached second round of the Wimbledon Championship in 2005.

Amritraj now takes on 13th seed Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky in the next round.

Also vying for a spot in the main draw of the ladies’ singles is Sunitha Rao. The second highest ranked Indian is up against American Raquel Kops-Jones in the opening round of the qualifying competition.
