NEW DELHI, April 24: Pratima Sayal of Hans Raj Model School, Punjabi Bagh annexed a `double’ crown in the 26th Chandravati Bhatnagar Memorial Manav Sthali Open Table Tennis Tournament which concluded at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here on Friday evening.
Having won the sub-junior singles title the previous day at the expense of Esha Bhambri, the ninth standard student added the girls crown today, beating an error-rone Mansi Sachdeva of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road in straight games. Pratima won the girls final 21-16, 21-16, 21-13 without having to face any difficulty.
Pratima’s elder brother, Sandeep Sayal, however, was not so fortunate. The left-hander from Bhatnagar International School went down in four games to Anshu Adlakha of Bal Bharati Public School. Adlakha won 21-16, 21-18, 17-21, 21-16.
In the last final of the day, Aditya Puri of Manav Sthali defeated his cousin Kunal Puri of Jaspal Kaur 21-12, 21-17 in cadet boys singles.
None of the three finals slated for the evening produced any good table tennis. Pratima, who has been sweeping almost all the sub-junior and junior girls titles in the Capital, added one more with this one. She was hardly troubled by Mansi for whom everything went wrong this evening.
After losing the first two games, Sandeep Sayal made an effort to come back into the match against Adlakha. But his third-game victory only proved an illusion and he went down meekly in the fourth to surrender the match.
