CHANDIGARH, Dec 7: Praveen Duggal and GB Singh scored contrasting victories to enter the next round of the 16th Chandigarh State Senior billiards and snooker championship being held at the Chandigarh Billiards Coaching Centre in Sector 22. Praveen had to rely on his reserve to score a 3-2 win over Kamal Kant while GB Singh humbled Shiv Pal Singh 3-0.
In the Praveen-Kamal tie, the former lost his concentration twice in the contest but showed remarkable comeback to prevail over his plucky opponent Kamal Kant, who is known for consistency. But in the match today, Kamal Kant made some hasty decisions for which he had to pay very dearly. He is out of reckoning now.
After initial hiccups, Parveen pocketed the first frame 54-50. But Kamal made it 1-1 each by winning the second frame 48-37. The third frame went to Praveen while Kamal fought bravely to level the score 2-2 (56-35).
In the deciding frame, Praveen played cautiously to win the frame 62-21 and wrapped up the contest 3-2. Praveen will face Deepinder in his next match.
Manav Dhawan also got a scare before he eventually got the better of Pranav Jain 49-37, 54-66, 44-50, 59-48, 68-48, to move into next round.
Had Pranav not committed too many errors in the match today, the outcome of the encounter would have been different. At the same time credit must also be given to Manav’s experience which saw him through.
In another match, Tarun Kumar beat Ashuu Duggal 75-48, 69-41, 39-55, 41-67, 64-26.
