The pregnant rape victim, who set herself ablaze on Friday last, succumbed to burn injuries on Saturday night.
The Pune police said today that the 20-year-old pregnant woman was raped by her neighbour on Thursday last in Bhosari area of the city, following which she attempted suicide on Friday morning. The incident happened within a week of the rape of another pregnant woman in the city’s Kondwa area.
The woman was admitted to Sasoon Hospital with 100 per cent burns where she succumbed to her injuries at 11 pm last night, police said. The 28-year-old accused has been arrested, the police added.
Meanwhile, the police were still clueless about those involved in the rape of a 19-year-old woman who lost her unborn child because of the sexual assault.
The victim was on her way home on April 26 and was waiting on the roadside at Kosarbaug in the city’s Kondwa area for transport when she was approached by four persons in an autorickshaw offering her a lift.
They later took her to a secluded spot where one of them raped her, resulting in her abortion.
