Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should strongly defend every inch of Arunachal Pradesh during his three-day visit to China next week, a BJP MP from the border state on Wednesday demanded.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Lok Sabha member from Arunachal Pradesh Kiren Rijiju said, “The muted and guarded response of the Central Government over claims made by China regarding Arunachal Pradesh is hardly encouraging.”
He reminded Singh of the agreement reached during former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee’s visit to China that status quo in populated areas on both sides of the McMohan line or Line of Actual Control would be maintained in letter and spirit.
Rijiju said reopening of border trade with China through traditional routes in the state would also bring India and China closer.
Reopening of Kinjomane, Bumla, Taksing, Mechuka, Monigong, Geling and Kibito, closed since the 1962 war, could make the de facto boundary and ultimately result in being recognised as permanent border, the BJP MP said.
