Bhupathi-Knowles,Paes-Dlouhy in men’s doubles QFs

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi advanced to the men's doubles quarterfinals with their respective partners after facile wins in the third round of the Australian Open.

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi advanced to the men’s doubles quarterfinals with their respective partners after facile wins in the third round of the Australian Open.

While Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles defeated Nicolas Lapentti and Tommy Robredo 6-3 6-4,Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy,seeded fourth,beat locals Paul Hanley and Jordan Kerr 6-2 7-5.

Bhupathi-Knowles pair next faces the Spanish pair of Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco. Paes and Dlouhy will be up against Italians Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi.

The third seeds Bhupathi and Knowles took 70 minutes to dispatch the unseeded Ecuadorian-Spanish duo in their third round clash.

However,the winners were trifle patchy as they,in total,squandered six breakpoints in the match.

Bhupathi-Knowles broke their rivals thrice and saved two breakpoints enroute to the victory.

In contrast,Paes and Dlouhy were dominant throughout and did not face single break point in the match.

Among the juniors,Kaza Vinayak Sharma joined compatriot and top seed Yuki Bhambri in the boys singles second round after carving out a facile 6-4 6-2 win over Sweden’s Patrik Brydolf.
