Boucher lbw decision was wrong: Australia umpires manager

Cricket Australia Umpires Manager Andrew Scotford has admitted that Mark Boucher was wrongly given out during the last day of the Sydney Test.

Cricket Australia Umpires Manager Andrew Scotford has admitted that South African wicket-keeper batsman Mark Boucher was wrongly given out during the last day of the Sydney Test.

Boucher was adjudged lbw when a Peter Siddle delivery from wide of the crease, struck him on the full. However,Scotford felt umpire Ashoka De Silva of Sri Lanka was wrong in presuming that the ball would have hit the stumps because according to the new rule framed in 2003 umpires must presume the ball would have carried on the line it was on and not deviate after bouncing.

“A ball bowled from wide of the crease like Siddle’s would have gone on the line it was and missed the stumps,” Scotford was quoted as saying in ‘The Age’.
