CCTV helped solve 6,000 crimes in 2009: Russia Interior Min

CCTV cameras have helped solve about 6,000 crimes this year in Russia,deputy chief of Russia's Interior Ministry's public order department.

CCTV cameras have helped solve about 6,000 crimes this year in Russia,deputy chief of Russia’s Interior Ministry’s public order department said on Tuesday.

At present there are over 150,000 CCTV cameras installed across the nation that are being actively used for control of public order,Nikolai Trifonov told reporters.

“Last year,technical gadgets helped solve 11,000 crimes. This work is being stepped up. Six thousand crimes have been solved with the use of CCTV cameras this year,” Trifonov said.

“The efficiency of video cameras is colossal. The video systems help us promptly respond to crimes,to ensure the police patrol arrive at the scene within 5-7 minutes,the deadline police regulations require.”
