The Indian shuttlers performances against the Chinese have instilled confidence among the players who feel that it is just a matter of small mistakes that when corrected, can take Indian badminton to greater heights. The rising stars of Indian badminton feel that the such has been the calibre of shuttlers from the Gopichand academy, that badminton powerhouse China afford ill-afford to take the Indians lightly.
Such is Gopi Sirs commitment towards our training that he comes at 4.30am and leaves only after 7.00pm.
There is so much discipline at the academy, which has great infrastructure. I have gone abroad but not seen any other place like that. We also put in 7 to 8 hours
of practice daily. Talking about the success mantra of Gopis trainees, the World no. 20 said,Gopi Sir has played at the highest level.
He makes sure that we do not make those mistakes that he might have made. He understands a players psyche and deals with us accordingly.
Thailand Open winner K Srikanth said that the upcoming Indian Badminton League is going to be very important for the rising shuttlers. Saina and Sindhu are in perfect form. Seeing them play against top foreign players is going to be inspiring for youngsters. Sindhus bronze at the Worlds is a big boost to our Awadh Warriors team as she is our icon player. Srikanth, who has been training at the Gopichand academy since 2009,feels that the key to its shuttlers success is that they do not copy the playing style of foreign players. They follow their natural game wherein emphasis is laid on improving the strengths and doing away with weakness. Sometimes, due to small mistakes,Indians end up losing against strong opponents.
The match often gets stretched to three games. Saina,Kashyap and Sindhu have all shown their might against the Chinese. The time has come when China cannot take us lightly, he rounded off.
