Coutts wins 3rd gold medal in Games pool

Coutts won her previous golds in the 200-meter individual medley and 100 freestyle.

Alicia Coutts of Australia has won her third individual gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, winning the 100-meter butterfly in the opening event on the fourth night of the swimming program.

While much of the pre-finals talk on Thursday revolved around stomach illnesses affecting a number of swimmers,Coutts didn’t seem bothered in finishing the race in 57.53 seconds. England’s Ellen Gandy was second in 58.06 while Jemma Lowe Wales took the bronze in 58.42.

Coutts won her previous golds in the 200-meter individual medley and 100 freestyle.

Rebecca Adlington of England, one of the swimmers affected by the stomach bug,was to swim the 800 freestyle later on Thursday. She is the Olympic champion in that event and over 400 meters.
