Eng still ‘celebrating’ over becoming World No. 1 Test side: Strauss

“We had achieved our goal, quicker than expected," he added.

England captain Andrew Strauss has reckoned his side is still enjoying the success of becoming the top-ranked Test side.

“I”m driving down the M40 from Edgbaston the day after we”ve become the No.1 Test team in the world by beating India. And beneath my pounding hangover,I”m feeling immensely proud,” The Telegraph quoted Strauss,as saying.

“We had achieved our goal, quicker than expected, and nothing was going to stop us celebrating appropriately,” he added.

He pointed out that his team’s formidable score of 700 runs against India, which gave them an unassailable lead in the game also showed their ruthlessness, which is very crucial to stay at the highest level.

He described Alastair Cook’s score of 294 runs,as a remarkable effort of endurance, and

attributed his team’s success to his players’ willingness to put the team before the individual.

Strauss, however, said his team needs to improve continuously to maintain the top position.

“It”s a very satisfying feeling, but it”s crucial to realise you can never stop improving. We”ll need to if we want to stay at the top,” he added.
