Ferrari expects to chase Red Bull in 2013 as well

Red Bull is set to clinch this year’s constructors’ championship.

With technical regulations more or less to remain the same next year,Ferrari’s woes of trying to match Red Bull’s pace this season could roll into 2013 as well.

Red Bull is set to clinch this year’s constructors’ championship and with the drivers’ title strongly tilting into Sebastian Vettel’s favour for the third year running, their rivals don’t seem to have an answer to battle at the front.

And,despite all the efforts,it could be the same story for Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa for yet another season.

“I would say that the situation could be more or less the same as this year,” Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali told F1Pulse.com. “Everyone is trying to catch up the target, that in terms of pure performance at the moment Red Bull has set,as seen in previous years.”

However, the Italian was a little bit more buoyant about his team’s prospects when the 1.6 litre V6 engines will be introduced in Formula 1,which will throw in a huge technical challenge for all involved.

“In my view,2014 will be a re-set where there is a chance, where once again the field will be split into separate sections because it’s a totally new set of regulations,it’s a totally new power train,so I’m expecting that will be a year when we can see some incredible or interesting big surprises,” Domenicali explained.

The other conundrum in 2013 is that teams will have to elect to forego the development of the cars at some time during the course of the season as a large number of updates will not be relevant for the following year.

“There’s not a lot of time, because of course all the teams will try to push hard in 2013 and then at a certain moment they will need to decide what to do for the year after and bear in mind that this year,I would say, most of the development that you can bring to the next year’s car,for 2014,you have to forget it and make sure that you have a good project that has to start from a white sheet of paper.

“And you have no reference with the other competitors so it will be a big question whether… I’m sure that the first day of testing in 2014 will be quite a challenge and quite interesting for all of us,” he reckoned.
