Out of action since his bronze medal win at the world championships in Milan in September,Vijender Singh, recovering from a wrist injury, expects to be back in the ring for the Commonwealth Boxing Championship in Delhi in March.

Beijing Olympic bronze medalist Vijender was one of the boxers chosen by the international association for the Presidents Cup in Azerbaijan last month but was forced to miss the inter-continental event due to the injury.

I have been practising regularly and I am feeling just the same as before the injury. Ive been doing sparring sessions and I dont feel any pain now, Vijender told The Indian Express. The trials for the Commonwealth event will be in late February and Im hopeful of getting into the team, said Vijender.

Its not the first time Vijender will be making a comeback to the ring. After a prolonged layoff post Beijing,he returned with a bronze at the Asian Championship in Zuhai,China. That meant a lot. I had been away from boxing for a while due to an injury, and people started questioning my attitude. But my performance there silenced my critics. I know Ive done it before so theres no pressure this time. Nevertheless its very important as the Commonwealth tournament will see most teams that will take part in the Commonwealth Games in October,so it will give us an opportunity to understand their games, he said.

National coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu is also impressed with Vijenders fitness levels.

I must say that Vijender is the fittest of the lot. He has been regularly undergoing five to six practice sessions which is good for his game. Even Akhil (Kumar),who won a Commonwealth boxing gold in 2005,and Jitender (Kumar) have shown their eagerness for the event and we will have tough competition for national team spots, said Sandhu.
