I deserve all the criticism: Clarke

Michael Clarke said he deserved all the criticism after a 0-2 Test series loss against India.

Under-fire Michael Clarke on Tuesday said he deserved all the criticism after a string of poor performance during Australia’s 0-2 Test series loss against India, but added it’s time to look ahead and return home on a high after winning the ODI series.

Clarke, who scored just 35 runs from four innings in the two-match Test series, said,”My performances in the Test series were not good enough so I deserved that criticism and I am very disappointed about that.”

But the stand-in skipper confirmed that he was not under pressure to perform in the limited-overs games as they prepare to take on India in the second ODI here on Wednesday.

“I am not at all under pressure. Everybody is entitled to voice their opinion. I can’t change that. I’m training very hard. I’m really excited about the two one-day matches. My main priority is to win both the ODIs. We are really excited about the bright weather, hope it continues on Wednesday.”

The first ODI in Kochi got abandoned due to heavy rains,so,now both the teams are keen to put their best foot forward in the remaining two one-dayers.

Asked about the status of their frontline pacer Doug Bollinger,Clarke said they were yet to decide on him.

“He is going well, though he has not bowled enough. It’s an important day for him today,he will have to bowl at the nets. Physio is happy with his improvement. But we need to make sure he bowls 10 overs for us tomorrow, otherwise I don’t think it’s worth a risk.”

Bollinger had to pull out of the second Test in Bangalore because of an abdominal strain.

Asked whether they were short of match practice after the wash out in Kochi,Clarke said both the teams did not get to bat or bowl so this could not be an disadvantage.

“We have no excuse,we have one day to get ready and give our best tomorrow. It’s about getting what you can do today.

It’s a huge one-day series, there are a lot of new guys. It’s going to be a fantastic experience.

“It will be tough. India have got a young squad but there is a lot of talent out there,” Clarke said.

The skipper said the Aussies always enjoy playing in India and the youngsters would get a lot of experience.

“I enjoy coming to India. It’s a wonderful place. Apart from the Test series result,we had a really good time. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s match. Fans love seeing competitive cricket here and we Australians bring that.”

Clarke said they were yet to decide on the final playing XI but hinted that opener Dave Warner and rookie left-arm pacer might be drafted in.

(Dave) Warner is a very exciting player. He had a lot of success in T20 format. There is a big chance for him (Mitchell Starc) to make a debut. But I am not sure whether they will play tomorrow. After the training,we will decide on that.”

Like India,Aussies too sport a lean side in absence of regular skipper Ricky Ponting,Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson, who are all rested.

The fast bowling line-up too has got thinned because of injuries to Shaun Tait,Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle among others. However,Clint McKay,John Hastings and Mitchell Starc look to make a mark.

Hasting and Starc, meanwhile, are yet to play an ODI.
