The next big thing in Indian badminton,PV Sindhu, may have lost a tough game against Saina Nehwal, but is already looking forward to her next game when the Awadhe Warriors take on Banga Beats on Sunday. Sindhu talks about the loss, her World Championship bronze and her plans after the IBL. Excerpts.
On the loss to Saina
I was leading 15-10 at one stage in the first game but then I went into a defensive mode and Saina started attacking. In the second game too I was quite defensive because of which I lost. Saina is a very experienced player and an inspiration for all the women badminton players and I have lot to learn from her.
On life after WC bronze
No change at all. The medal is certainly a confidence booster but my coach,Gopi sir, tells me this all the time that every international game is a challenge every single time and I would do well to remember it. Winning a bronze medal for India at the age of 18 will go a long way for me and will make me persevere even more and prepare myself for the other bigger tournaments.
On Ratchanok
Losing never gives me solace. Its just that Ive known my next step and I believe that its not how strong or weak the opponent is as much it is about the preparedness before the game and the way the game progresses that makes the difference.
On the next game
I hope to give my best in that match. Banga Beats is a strong team and so are the Awadhe Warriors. It is likely to be an evenly poised fight.
On the tough IBL schedule
If we want the crowd to be there we have to play along with the busy schedule too. However,it could have been better had the evening encounters start earlier. If the matches start at 8.00 pm,then they continue on till midnight or so for all the matches to get over which is quite late.
What after IBL
There is the All England tournament and we have the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, these are the bigger targets for which I would be preparing myself. But the IBL itself is important.
