Kirti Azad attacks IPL so BCCI stops his cheque

The 1983 World Cup winning member was due to receive Rs 50 lakh.

A day after his protest fast outside Ferozeshah Kotla over what he called financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League, the BCCI has decided to scratch the name of cricketer-turned-MP Kirti Azads name from the list of former players who were to get a share from monetary surplus from the play-offs of the T20 tournament. The 1983 World Cup winning member was due to receive Rs 50 lakh.

The board has also sought a written explanation from other former India and first-class cricketers who were seen with Azad when he raised concerns over alleged black money in IPL.

Reacting to the BCCI snub,Azad called it immature. I can only laugh at them if they think by throwing money, they can buy people. It means if someone points out something wrong in the BCCI,this is how they will retaliate. Neither would I have had the pleasure in receiving the money and neither am I dripping with sorrow for not getting it, Azad said.

A top BCCI official said defended the decision. Since Kirti has serious issues about the money in IPL and wants it closed, its only correct that we dont pass on the benefit generated from this tournament. This one-time payment is from IPL so anyone who has a grouse against it should not reap the benefits. Kirti, however, continue to get pension every month.
