Kokrajhar MLA,Pradip Kumar Brahma held for inciting mobs

The BPF called an indefinite bandh and blocked railway tracks for about six hours in the morning.

OVER a month after violence broke out in Kokrajhar and its adjoining districts,Bodo People’s Front (BPF) MLA from Kokrajhar (West) Pradip Kumar Brahma was arrested from his residence at Dotma at 1 am on Thursday on charges of inciting mobs to burn down villages.

The BPF is an ally of the Congress in Assam and a partner of the UPA at the Centre.

Protesting against the arrest,the BPF called an indefinite bandh and blocked railway tracks for about six hours in the morning. The district administration imposed indefinite curfew in Kokrajhar district.

Assam IGP (Law & Order) L R Bishnoi said Brahma was arrested on the basis of at least seven FIRs registered in two police stations — Dotma and Fakiragram — under Kokrajhar district. “He has been arrested in connection with one particular case registered in Dotma police station,after he was named in several statements by the victims,” he said.
