A day before Abhishek Nayars fate as captain of Mumbais Ranji team will be decided,a tweet by MCA managing committee member Abey Kuruvilla has indicated the allrounder will be sacked. The Mumbai Cricket Associations (MCA) senior selection committee met at the Wankhede stadium after Mumbai last game in which they conceded 3 points to Jharkhand. The committee is scheduled for an official meeting on Wednesday. On Tuesday however the a tweet by the profile abey1968 read -Another blunder to sack Abhishek Nayar as a captain after one match. On being contacted by The Indian Express,Kuruvilla,who is currently managing committee member in the MCA and a former selector neither confirmed nor denied making the tweet.
It is believed that the selection committed will be taking take some stern steps before next game against Odisha. It is learnt that the committee feels that Nayar is not suited for the captaincy as he is currently out of form. Nayar who was Mumbais most prolific player last season has had a poor run so far. In his last ten innings,Nayar has scored just 200 runs with a single half century at an average of 22.22.
When contacted MCA joint-secretary Nitin Dalal said he is unaware of Nayars impending ouster. I dont know anything about this. The team for next game will be picked on Wednesday morning, Dalal replied. It is learnt that Mumbai coach Sulakshan Kulkarni wanted Mumbais vice-captain Aditya Tare to lead,however,the wicket-keeper batsman didnt want to replace Nayar. The team has no option than requesting Wasim Jaffer to lead, a source informed.
