announcing (via Facebook) that he is shooting The Hobbit at 48 frames per second,or twice the normal rate. Cameron has also been promoting use of the faster speed for his next two Avatar movies. Both men say that shooting at 48 frames per second makes a movie look more lifelike and lessens the eye strain that can come from 3-D presentation.

Roman Polanski’s Carnage,a film adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s play God of Carnage has been acquired for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics which said that it plans to release the film at the end of the year. The stage version of God of Carnage,which in 2009 won the Tony Award for best play,chronicles two Brooklyn couples who are brought together by a playground fight between their children,leading to a night of arguing,drinking and vomiting. The film features a script written by Polanski and Reza,and will star Jodie Foster,Kate Winslet,Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly.

Danielle Harris is among the last of a dying breed,an old-fashioned horror-movie scream queen. The petite brunette was 11 when she starred in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and since then has appeared in a dozen-plus fright films and shows,among them Urban Legend,Fear Clinic,Halloween 2. Her latest horror excursion,Stake Land will open in theatres on April 22. It unfolds in an America besieged by a vampire plague. The film has earned accolades from mainstream critics and horror fans alike,and won the Midnight Madness Award at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
