Happy with the arrangements at the Athletes Village,an over 200-strong contingent is eyeing no less than 11 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games commencing from tomorrow here.
We have got all the facilities here. Our athletes are in high spirits. Food is better than the Beijing (Olympic Games).
Security is very tight, General Team Manager of Malaysia,Che Zolkples told PTI.
We are expecting position in top 10 in the medal tally and about 11 golds in the competition. Our hopes are high in badminton,weightlifting,archery,cycling and squash, added Zolkples.
Meanwhile,addressing a press conference at the Games Village,Malaysias Sports Minister Y B Dato Ahmed Shabery Cheek said their athletes will give tough competition to other countries,including hosts India and Pakistan.
Malaysias chef de Mission Tan Sri Abdul Hilal Abd Mutasif and their High Commissioner to India Dato Seng Sung,who were also present at the conference,expressed confidence in the athletes.
Malaysia has a total of 201 athletes.
In another press conference,Englands head coach for swimming,Chris Nesbit,exuded confidence that their athletes would put up good performance in aquatic events.
I would not say any number as target. We are not talking any specific number, Nesbit said.
England has 45 swimmers ¿- 23 men and 22 women ¿- for different swimming events.
We have a good team and all of us are hoping for the medals, said leading British swimmer Gemma Spofforth.
Other swimmers — Ros Davenport,James Goddard,Lian Tarcoch,Becky Adlington,Fron Halsall — to attend the conference were also excited about the competition.
It is excited and I am looking forward for good competition, Tarcoch said.
The 12-day sporting extravaganza will begin tomorrow as Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will host the opening ceremony.
