Man arrested in vicinity of Norway PM with knife: Report

The suspect said he was a member of the Labour party's youth wing.

Norwegian police arrested a young man carrying a knife today at a hotel where Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was visiting survivors of a shooting rampage that left 84 dead,broadcaster NRK said.

The suspect said he was a member of the Labour party’s youth wing and that he had a knife in his pocket “because he did not feel safe,” an NRK reporter said.

The shooting’s victims were all killed by a gunman while attending a summer camp run by the Labour party’s youth wing on an island near Oslo.

Stoltenberg was inside a building when the young man was arrested outside the hotel.

The young man was taken to a police car which left the scene.

According to another NRK reporter,the young man,wearing shorts,did not appear threatening and “was smiling when he was put in the police car.”

Police could not be reached for an immediate comment on the incident.
