Much before the Indian cricketers objection to the World Anti-Doping Agencys whereabouts clause had hit the headlines, women cricketers Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj,too, had raised similar concerns over the controversial directive.

Captain Jhulan and middle-order batswoman Mithali were briefed by the ICC during the womens World Cup held in Australia in March. Our first reaction (to the clause) was that it would affect our personal lives, Mithali told The Indian Express.

We got in touch with the BCCI. They told us to wait since the mens team were in New Zealand and they also were going to be addressed, Mithali added.

Besides Team India players MS Dhoni,Virender Sehwag,Yuvraj Singh,Harbhajan Singh,Sachin Tendulkar,Zaheer Khan,Gautam Gambhir,Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel,Jhulan and Mithali are also on WADAs International Registered Testing Pool list.

Different approach needed

The 26-year-old Mithali felt WADA needed to adopt a different approach towards cricket. We are playing almost non-stop cricket. During competitions, you are at one place and know your itinerary. When you are at home, you dont know about the next three hours, forget about three months, she said, adding,We are not against testing but that clause is rigid. I dont see my family for months, and when Im at home,I need some privacy. We plan things spontaneously,be it a movie or a dinner.

Mithali also said that cricket was one sport where performance enhancing drugs were not of much help. How many cricketers are found guilty of doping? Very few. I really dont know how having a medicine will help you get wickets or score runs, she asked.

She said that chances of testing positive were more in individual sport. In team sport, the focus is on the group, whereas in individual sport,it all boils down to one person, Mithali said, adding that the BCCI did the right thing by backing the players.
