No stay on DC termination
The cash-strapped Deccan Chargers will remain terminated from the IPL after the Bombay high court set aside a status quo order passed by an arbitrator on cessation of its membership in the league. Hearing a petition filed by the Cricket Board,Justice R D Dhanuka quashed the status quo order passed by the arbitrator appointed by the High Court to resolve the dispute between BCCI and Deccan Chronicles Holdings Limited (DCHL). On another petition filed by DCHL against termination of the contract of its IPL franchise, the court refused to grant any interim relief, but said the legality of the termination would be decided by the arbitrator. The courts orders on the two petitions effectively means that the termination of Deccan Chargers IPL membership would stand.
Everybody is susceptible
ICC CEO Dave Richardson says that crickets world governing body is facing a war against corruption right now in which everybody is susceptible, including the curators and the groundsmen. Cricket fraternity was once again left shaken when an Indian TV channel did a sting operation on umpires who were allegedly willing to give dubious decisions for money. It is everybody now unfortunately: everybody is susceptible, the curators, the groundsmen, Richardson, who took over as ICC CEO in July this year, said at the unveiling of the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in England next year. At international level, whether it is a bilateral series or whether it is an ICC event, the attention to that aspect of the world game is at the same level every time we walk out onto the field so to speak.
Illnesses on tours caused cancer
Former New Zealand captain Martin Crowe on Thursday blamed illnesses picked up touring during a 13-year international cricket career for his diagnosis with the cancer lymphoma. Crowe said his cancer was very treatable and he would battle it with the same determination he displayed during his playing days.My mindset and fierce focus has kicked in just like it did when approaching a long innings in a Test match, he said in a statement. I will focus on the important things in front of me,and nothing else. The 50-year-old said he believed his immune system had been weakened by illness while on the road with the Black Caps, leaving him vulnerable to the cancer, which he said was grade two follicular lymphoma. In the past,on travels during my cricket career, suffering salmonella and glandular fever has compromised me, he said.
