Raymond Davis family not in Pakistan: US embassy

Raymond's arrest sparked a diplomatic crisis and strained relations between US and Pak.

The family of US official Raymond Davis,who shot dead two men in Lahore,is in Pakistan,a media report said today,prompting the American embassy here to reject it as “false”.

US Embassy spokesperson Courtney Beale said that “media reports stating that family members of Raymond Davis are in Pakistan are false.”

“Raymond Davis’ alleged family reached Pakistan between Wednesday night and Thursday morning,” DawnNews reported.

The family that arrived at Allama Iqbal International Airport included a woman,two men and three children. They were escorted out of the airport under high security arrangements and were taken to an unidentified location.

The vehicles that were carrying Davis alleged family had false number plates,the report added.

Davis,an alleged CIA contractor who was arrested on January 27 for gunning down two men here.

Davis claimed he acted in self-defence as the armed men were trying to rob him.

His arrest has sparked a diplomatic crisis and strained relations between the US and Pakistan. The US has threatened to withhold the USD 1.5 billion aid package promised to Pakistan for the war on terror.
