Sexual assault case against Strauss-Kahn may be dismissed: reports

Strauss-Kahn will meet to discuss a plea deal or the possibility of dismissing the case.

US Prosecutors and lawyers of Dominique Strauss-Kahn will meet to discuss a plea deal or the possibility of dismissing the case against former IMF chief, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a hotel maid here.

The first meeting between the lawyers is scheduled for today but it is not expected that they will reach a decision,The New York Times reported.

They could, however, come to an agreement before the next court date on July 18. Last week,it emerged that the 32-year-old maid herself has been lying to investigators.

The maid’s lying has weakened the prosecution’s case but did not immediately lead to a dismissal of the case against him.

The French national, however, was released from house arrest but is required to stay in the US as evidence gathering continues.

Strauss-Kahn,62,was accused of forcing the maid to perform oral sex. He was taken into custody a few minutes before his Air France flight departed for Paris in May.

Citing a top investigator, the New York Post earlier reported that the sexual assault case against Strauss-Kahn,the former chief of the International Monetary Fund, would be dropped.

“We all know this case is not sustainable,” he said.

“Her credibility is so bad now,we know we cannot sustain a case with her,” the source added, referring to the Guinean maid.

Meanwhile, the maid has sued The Post for reporting that she worked as a hooker in the hotel. In France,a writer has officially filed a case against Strauss-Kahn alleging that former IMF boss attempted to rape her in 2003.
