Somdev in final round

Somdev Devvarman survived another three-setter to move into the final round of the French Open qualifiers.

Somdev Devvarman survived another three-setter to move into the final round of the French Open qualifiers on Thursday after defeating Great Britain’s Alex Bogdanovic 6-2 6-7 (3) 6-4.

In his first qualifying match against Joao Souza on Tuesday, the Indian was down a break in the final set and came back to win,and he managed to pull it off again in his second. Against Bogdanovic,Devvarman had a first serve percentage of 67,while six double faults from the Briton gifted a few points his way.

The world No 144 is a match away from making it to the main draw of the claycourt Slam, and standing in his way is third seed Marcos Daniel of Brazil, who beat Croatian Ivan Dodig on 7-5 6-4.

“I played well in patches, but hopefully I can raise my level of play in tomorrow’s match. Today I stayed tough right through and that’s what helped me,” Devvarman said.
