Spain’s Pepe Reina involved in racism row

The keeper features in a racist advertisement for Spanish insurance firm Groupama Seguros.

Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina has been caught in a race row over complaints about a Spanish TV commercial.

One advertisement for Spanish insurance firm Groupama Seguros, featuring the Liverpool keeper being introduced to a tribal chief, has been slammed by British campaign group Operation Black Vote.

OBV insist the advert “depicts black people in a jungle scenario as stupid, backward, animalistic homosexuals.”

The ad has been pulled from Spanish TV since their complaint.

The Sun quoted campaign director Simon Woolley,as saying: “I’m shocked on so many levels. Does he think it’s OK to characterise black people this way?”

Reina is the second Liverpool player to be embroiled in racism scandal after forward Luis Suarez allegedly racially abused Manchester United defender Patrice Evra when the sides faced off on October 15 last year.
