Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi reached the final of the SA Open in Johannesburg after a hard-fought semi-final win. The third seed Indo-Pak pair edged past the fifth-seed American pair of Erico Butorac and Rajeev Ram 7-6 (5) 6-4. They will meet the winners of the other semi-final between Steve Darcis- Kavier Malisse and Karol Beck-Harel Levy.

Jeev six off lead

Jeev Milkha Singh shot a two-under 70 to be tied ninth after the third round of the Dubai Desert Classic. Jeev’s three-round total stood at six-under 210,five strokes off the pace. Shiv Kapur (71) and SSP Chowrasia (70) also improved their positions,rising to tied 46th with identical even-par totals. There was a four-way tie for the lead between Miguel Angel Jimenez,Alvaro Quiros,Lee Westwood and Thongchai Jaidee.

Bhullar tied 9th in Bangkok

Gaganjeet Bhullar carded a third successive one-under 71 for a share of the ninth spot after the third round of the $300,000 Asian Tour International in Bangkok. Bhullar’s three-day total stands at three-under 213 at the Suwan Golf and Country Club. Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat has a two-shot lead with a nine-under 207 total.

‘Henry handball’ ref for WC

FIFA has included Martin Hansson in its squad of World Cup referees despite the Swede missing Thierry Henry’s handball during France’s decisive qualifier against Ireland. Hansson is among 30 referees chosen to travel to South Africa this summer.
