There was no play possible on Day Three of the Duleep Trophy final between South Zone and North Zone due to wet outfield conditions at Nehru Stadium. Day One had been washed out by rain,while there were only 10 overs of play possible on Day Two. With conditions not fit for play to start on time,umpires Sanjay Hazare and Suresh Shastri inspected the outfield at 12.30 pm,and decided to make another inspection two hours later. After the second inspection,they decided to call off the day’s play. At the end of Day Two,South were 33 for two,with openers Abhinav Mukund and KL Rahul back in the pavilion.

United held,Gunners win

Arsenal and Chelsea showed more great form ahead of Champions League matches with thrashings of Norwich and Cardiff that left the London clubs first and second respectively in the Premier League on Saturday. Now unbeaten in 12 games in all competition,Arsenal dismantled Norwich 4-1 at home while Samuel Eto’o scored his first Chelsea goal to spark a 4-1 win at Stamford Bridge. The Gunners are two points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool after the Reds had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw against 10-man Newcastle. Dejan Lovren grabbed a late equalizer for Southampton in a 1-1 draw at Manchester United,adding to the champions’ troubles in a lackluster start to their title defense.

Meghalaya win U-17 title

OM Roy Memorial,Shillong,Meghalaya won the U-17 Boy’s title of the 54th Subroto Cup football tournament in spectacular fashion,after outplaying Magurmari High School,Kokrajhar,Assam 4-0 in a thrilling final at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. Mebanshan Suting scored for Meghalaya in the 35th minute while Nongrud Jefforson (46th min),Kynter Lenningston (61st min) and Kurbah Michaelson (69th min) found the net after the break.

Gangjee tied fourth

Rahil Gangjee carded a five-under 66 and zoomed up the leader-board to be tied fourth after the third round of the Venetian Macau Open. Gangjee,who opened with a 73 on the first day,shot a 67 on the second and further improved with a 66 to get to eight-under 205,four shots behind leader Scott Hend. Australian Hend put on a fine performance with a blistering eight-under 63 to open up a four-shot lead over Ernie Els of South Africa and Bangladeshi Siddikur after the third round.
