Days after raking up the Kashmir issue at the UN,Pakistan again sought to raise the tempers on the matter today asking the international community to take notice of "gross human rights violations" in the Valley and pressurise India to put an end to the "repression" there. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani reiterated his government's resolve to continue extending "moral, diplomatic and political support" to the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination. Gilani made the remarks during a meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who is also chairman of the special parliamentary committee on Kashmir. The premier urged the international community to "take notice of gross human rights violations in Indian-held Kashmir" and to "pressurise India to put an end to the repression of the Kashmiri people",said a statement issued by Gilani's office. Durable peace and stability in South Asia is linked to the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people,Gilani said. Gilani's comments come days after Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi raked up the issue at the United Nations General Assembly and harped on giving the people there the right to "self-determination" through "plebiscite" and accused Indian security forces of "brutality". Rehman apprised Gilani about the parliamentary committee's meeting with leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference on Friday. He said the Hurriyat leaders briefed the panel about the "indigenous and people-led character of the recent uprising against the atrocities of the Indian security forces". He said the parliamentary committee had assured the Hurriyat delegation of Pakistan's "complete support and solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their just cause". Rehman briefed the Prime Minister about several proposals and recommendations to "highlight the human rights violations in occupied Kashmir at various international forums" before US President Barack Obama's upcoming visit to India.
