TRC football stadium to have artificial turf by winter

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 6 crore for laying the synthetic football turf at TRC ground: JKSC.

The talented footballers of Kashmir can now think of practising during winter season as the central government has sanctioned Rs 6 crore for laying an artificial turf at the TRC Stadium here.

“The Centre has sanctioned Rs 6 crore for laying the synthetic football turf at TRC ground,” Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) secretary Kiran Wattal said.

He said the turf will be laid within next three months to ensure that the footballers can continue their training even during intense winter months.

“The turf will be of international quality. We have fast tracked the work to ensure that it is completed before onset of winter,” Wattal stated.

He said in the latter stages,the Sports Council will develop state-of-the-art change rooms and other facilities for players and spectators at the TRC ground. Football is one of the most popular sports in Kashmir which has produced some of the top players for the country including Abdul Majid Kakroo,Mehrajuddin Wadoo and Ishfaq Ahmed.

However,players from the valley had to move to other places of the country to continue training during winters as snowfall would not allow any practice.
