Britain's first post World War II coalition government completes 100 days in office.

Defying predictions of early doom,Britain’s first post World War II coalition government on Wednesday completed 100 days in office,with the deputy prime minister Nick Clegg claiming “we have surprised people with action not paralysis.”

“We have introduced more reforms in 100 days than the last government did in 13 years,” a beaming deputy prime minsiter Nick Clegg said in a televised interview to mark the occasion.

After the inconclusive May general elections which produced an unlikely alliance between the right wing Conservatives and Centre-Left Liberal Democrats,political watchers had predicted an early doom of the coalition.

“We are still here,” Clegg said as he holds fort with prime minister David Cameron who is on a two week holiday with his family.

Elaborating on how they had done better than Tony Blair and Gordon Brown,the new young deputy prime minister said,”We’ve reformed the NHS (National Health Scheme),bought in political reforms,improved schools and bought changes to tax system and pensions.”

“Our test has been. Have we sorted out the economy? Are there jobs? That is the acid test,” Clegg asked.

He said,the coalition government was working towards solving all these issues.

But,the severe test for the coalition is coming in next few weeks when it implements the sweeping fiscal cuts in the economy.

A comprehensive economic and spending review has been announced for October 20. But till then the coalition is riding the popular waves,with a latest Guardian opinion poll showing that 46 per cent of the British people believed that

the Conservative-Lib-Dem tie up was doing a good job.
