Medium pacer Baltej Singh finished with seven wickets in the innings to help Punjab bowl out Delhi for 319 and lift the CK Nayudu Trophy by virtue of their first innings lead of 105. Baltej added two wickets to his kitty on Friday, while Siddharth Kaul scalped one. Delhi gave up the fight after the 125-run eighth-wicket partnership between Arjun Gupta and Varun Sood was broken.
When the match was called off due to bad light,Punjab were 151 for four with Gurkeerat Mann making a quickfire 42 off 31 deliveries in their second innings.
Siddharth Kaul accounted for Arjun Gupta when he got the batsman to play at a full delivery to wicket-keeper Gitansh Khera. Baltej trapped Sunny Sehrawat in front of the stumps with an in-swinger. Sood and last man Vikram Dahiya extended the Delhi innings but they had too much to do against a Punjab attack that bowled a disciplined line and length on the final day. After reaching half-century,Sood edged Baltej to wicket-keeper Khera to end all hopes of Delhi taking a crucial first innings lead.
Punjab began their second innings poorly as both the openers Pargat Singh and Kunwar Raina made early exits after chasing away going deliveries. The third-wicket partnership between Himanshu Chawla and Preet Kamal Rai added 69 runs during a productive period of play.
After Chawla and Kamal departed, the fifth-wicket partnership between Gurkeerat Singh and Jivanjot Singh added 52 before the play was called off.
I am very impressed with the performance. We have been experimenting with our bowling but all those who were given an opportunity have delivered, said Punjab coach Sunil Saggi.
