Would be nice to get a ton in hometown Hobart: Ponting

The former Australian hasn't scored a century since his last 29 innings.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said that it ‘would be nice’ to break his run of 29 innings without a century at the Bellerive Oval,his home ground.

His first appearance at first-class level was at the ground as a 17-year-old in 1992.

It’s very rare I get to play international games down in front of what’s always been my home town and my home crowds. It also takes on a bit of extra special meaning to play in this game, the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting,as saying.

Ponting sees Hobart as his ‘home town’ despite growing up in Launceston.

It’s been pretty hard over the years to move my family around the country too much,but this is one Test match they usually come to. They’ll come down on Friday for the start of the game and stay for the weekend, said Ponting.

When Ponting last saluted in Hobart he shared a 352-run partnership with then-deputy Michael Clarke,who is now his captain. It remains the record fourth-wicket partnership for Australia.

Ponting was unwilling to place too much significance on scoring consecutive half-centuries,in Johannesburg and then Brisbane. He simply described them as evidence the hard work I’m doing is starting to pay off.
