Jharkhand government has ordered an inquiry into the custodial death of a tribal youth on March 21. The inquiry will be conducted jointly by South Chotanagpur Divisional Commissioner Shila Kisku Rapaz and DIG R.D. Subarno.

Kartik Oraon, 30, a resident of Pokotoli in Gumla district, was taken into police custody in connection with a robbery case on March 21 in which six motorcycle-borne tribal youths fled after robbing UCO Bank’s Gumla branch of cash amounting to over Rs 43 lakh at gun-point, police said.

Chief Minister Babulal Marandi ordered the inquiry into the incident on Thursday, a day after an Adivasi Chhatra Sangh delegation met him and requested him to investigate the matter.

Oraon allegedly provided shelter to the youths who were involved in the robbery.
