In a setback to investigations in the multi-crore kidney transplant racket, the medical report of complainant Vidhya Prakash also known as Pappu Jatav, which reached the Moradabad police this morning, has confirmed that both his kidneys are intact.
It was on Pappu’s complaint that the Moradabad police raided a house in Gurgaon and busted the kidney racket. From Purva Mahabir in Meerut, Pappu had gone to Gurgaon to work as a labour hand.
In his complaint filed at the Civil Lines police station on January 24, Pappu had accused Dr Amit, Dr Upendra, Dr Jeevan,
“Pappu had told us that they forced him to undergo an operation in Gurgaon and he later realised that one of his kidneys had been removed,” said K N Mishra, Inspector, Civil Lines police station.
The Moradabad police got Pappu’s ultrasound scan done as part of evidence collection. The report about his kidneys being intact surprised police but they maintain this will not affect the case since there are eight witnesses to the racket in Gurgaon.
“Since the CBI is now investigating the case, we cannot speak about it,” an officer said.
The police, on their part, insist that Pappu did undergo surgery because “he has the marks on his body” but “the kidney was not removed for some medical reason”.
Munzil Saini, Moradabad ASP, said: “Pappu was taking all precautions in daily life, assuming that one of his kidneys had been removed. Pappu had gone for an operation and there were marks of surgery on his abdomen.”
She said that when Pappu visited the Civil Lines police station, he showed them the operation marks and said one of his kidneys had been removed. “We suspect that due to some medical complication, Pappu’s kidney was not removed,” she said.
