PATIALA, Dec 14: Women should not be confined only to household activities, they need education even for smooth running of the the family and for that matter for a developed society. They should be given their due share in the society. Social progress is possible only if the women contribute a lion share in the development of society. Women should be provided all opportunities for their overall development, said Dr J.S.Puar, Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University while delivering his inaugural address at the seminar entitled “leadership in women” organised by the Lions Club, District 321 at the Punjabi University here today.

He said that though the governments were making all possible efforts to safeguard the rights of the women, it was not possible until the women themselves were aware about their rights. Illiteracy brings poverty, therefore it was of a paramount need that women should be encouraged to be educated, stressed Dr Puar.

Earlier, welcoming the guest, G.S. Mehra, SP, spoke about various women leaders who had contributed a lot in the independence movement as well as progress of modern India.
