CHENNAI, February 28: The younger generation should follow noble religious principles, former President R Venkataraman said on Friday.Speaking at the graduation ceremony at Satya Nilayam, where he distributed certificates to students who had completed the Inter-Religious Understanding and Appreciation course, he said, ``We have progressed only because of religion.''He regretted that religion had now become the cause of violence. ``No religion said that you can kill, you can rob,'' he said. He drew a parallel between Mahatma Gandhi's principle of non-violence and Jesus Christ's philosophy of `love thy neighbour'. He lauded the Inter-Religious course graduates and said that the central thread of all religions, `service to all', should be imparted to the youth.
