Mumbai, August 13: Promise, comprising Yvette Singapuri, Prakash Dalvi and the husband-wife duo of the Karmarkar’s, emerged champions in the mixed team event of the Rs 65,000 Annual Otters Club Bridge Tournament, which concluded at the club’s premises on Sunday.
Promise totalled 160 victory points over the two sessions of six rounds each, to win the top prize of Rs 8,000 and push Mystery to the second spot. Mystery, comprising JM Shah, Hema Deora, Pramila Shivdasani and Arvind Vaidya, were leading after the first session, but couldn’t maintain their good showing and finished with 153 victory points. Mystery won Rs 6,000 for their efforts. Coming in third with 147 points was the team Rahul with 147 victory points, followed by Deep Finesse with 136. Rahul won Rs 4,000, while Deep Finesse got Rs 2,000. Earlier, the mixed pairs event was won by Usha Kabra and Kamal Kabra, who tallied a total of 336.5 match points after two sessions of 50 boards, played over the Mithwal and Howel movements. Usha and Kabra were awarded Rs 5,000. Coming in second was the pair of Shailaja Mahajan and Uday Khot with 334.5 points, to win the second-placed prize money of Rs 4,000. Yvette Singapuri and Ian Concessio, who were leading after the first session, finished in third spot with333.5 and won Rs three throusand. The fourth and fifth placed teams of Bharati Dey and Sunil Macchar and Pramila Shivdasani and Arvind Vaidya finished with 333 and 324. 5 and won Rs 2,000 and 1,000 respectively. It was a profitable outing for Yvette Singapuri, who finished in top place in two events, having won the ladies pairs event on the first day.
