CHANDIGARH, MARCH 24: Protesting against the arrest of BJP and SAD leaders yesterday following their staging a dharna outside the office of the UT Adviser, as many as 104 BJP activists today courted arrest after they marched towards the Raj Bhawan to hand over a memorandum to the UT Administrator against the "high-handedness" of the UT Adviser, here today.

The protesters, headed by a Steering Committee were stopped by the police in Sector 7, where they also burnt the effigy of Adviser Jagdish Sagar and raised slogans against him. It was also decided to meet the Union Home Minister in this regard. They were later arrested by the police as they violated prohibitory orders. They were later released by the SDM.

The protesters also gathered at the police station, Sector 26 and many BJP leaders addressed them and criticised the Adviser for his role. Prominent among those who addressed included Jai Ram Joshi, Neeraj Tayal, Mahaveer Prasad, Satinder Singh, Roshan Lal Jindal and Neena Tewari.

In the memorandum to the UT Administrator Lt Gen B.K.N. Chhibber (retd), BJP and SAD leaders demanded the immediate removal of the Adviser, withdrawal of all cases framed against their leaders arrested yesterday and clearing the working of the Municipal Corporation from all kinds of alleged irregularities.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Janta Party has reiterated its demand of dissolving the Municipal Corporation. SJP president Devinder Singh Babla said that the infighting among the BJP had led to crippling of the MC due to which the genuine problems of the public were being ignored.

Reacting to the arrest of political leaders due to their protest yesterday, Babla said such attitude of the Administration towards political leaders would be resented.
