
The 24th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival began at the Panjab University on Saturday with as many as 18 teams comprising 638 participants scheduled to take part in a variety of competitions over the next five days.
While inaugurating the event, Chief Guest Laxmi Kanta Chawla, Health Minister of Punjab, said that the youth should not ape the West and, rather, play an active role in preserving the cultural heritage and values.
Students from different universities across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh will showcase their talents at the Panjab University.
Coordinator of the fest Jatinder Grover said that the event is dedicated to the preservation of our heritage and culture. Different types of cultural programmes— mimicry, creative writing, rangoli, poster making, cartoon making, plays and quizzes—will be organised till December 17.
“I am performing a folk dance on the first day of the inter-zonal youth fest. I have been preparing since the last two months and was eagerly waiting for this day,” said Priya, a student of Panjab University.
