CHANDIGARH, Oct 12: While rejecting the appeal of the registrar, the Punjab University Non-Teaching Employees' Federation has decided to intensify its agitation. Today was the fourth day of protest by the employees who are demanding payment of arrears.A meeting of the federation was held today where representatives of seven different PU unions termed the appeal of the registrar as lopsided and distorted. They described it as an attempt to create a wedge between teachers and the non-teaching employees.According to a joint press statement issued by presidents of seven unions, chairman of the Joint Consultative Machinery G. K. Chathrath had made a commitment that arrears will be paid by September 25 even if grants are not received from the Government. They accused the university on going back on the demand.The expenditure incurred by the university on ``luxurious office facilities'', creation of non-sanctioned provisions at the residences of university high-ups, purchase of cars and free transport facilities to some university employees came in for criticism by the employees. The president of the federation, Dharam Paul Sharma also demanded a probe into the exorbitant telephone bills of the university top brass.
