
Spurned, he assaults aunt
A 25-year-old youth, Sanjay Pandurang Mane, allegedly assaulted his aunt with an axe when she rejected his proposal to marry her daughter.
Pramila Ganpat Pole (51), a resident of Bijlinagar in Chinchwad, has been admitted to a private hospital. Her condition was stated to be critical.
Pole had recently shifted to Chinchwad from Sangli. Sanjay also used to stay with his aunt as he was completing his engineering studies there. Pole’s daughter was completing a computer course in Sangli, the police said.
Sanjay had earlier proposed to marry Pole’s daughter to which Pole reportedly refused. He had been visiting their residence at Chinchwad and this morning he allegedly attacked his aunt with an axe. The incident took place around 11.30 am.
Sanjay has been reported absconding. The Nigdi police is investigating.
Kanitkar case: PIL hearing ends
The Bombay High Court on Monday refused to continue the hearing of public interest litigation filed against chairman of Pimpri-Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA), Agasti Kanitkar.
The decision on the litigation, filed by freedom fighter Ramchandra Deshmukhe, was delivered by the bench comprising of justice Ashok Agarwal and S S Parkar. However, the court allowed the petitioner to file a fresh petition within four weeks.
Chief Minister Manohar Joshi had last week cleared Kanitkar of all corruption charges. The hearing was in progress for about 15 months. Divisional Commissioner Arun Bhatia, who was appointed by the State Government to look into corruption charges, had also held Kanitkar guilty.
Bhatia had even suggested that Kanitkar be relived from his post immediately.
Deshmukhe later told media persons that he would file a fresh petition within the stipulated period.
Tunnel work at Khandala
Work of a new tunnel for the proposed Mumbai-Pune express highway will commence at Khandala from December 29, according to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. As a safety measure, traffic coming from Mumbai will be stopped at Amrutanjan bridge during the blast timings between 10 am and 11 am and 5 pm to 6 pm. The work of the tunnel is expected to continue for a month. The MSRDC said that traffic will be regularised as soon as the blasting operations were over.
Pedestrian killed
A 60-year-old pedestrian Radhabai Rajaram Pardeshi was killed on Sunday afternoon when she was hit by a speeding tanker. The mishap occured near All India Radio building at Hadapsar at 3.30 pm.
Pardeshi a resident of survey number 14, Hadapsar was walking near the Shah Petrol pump when a speeding diesel tanker proceeding towards the pump hit her. The driver fled after the mishap.
