Bhatia seeks permission
Divisional commissioner Arun Bhatia has sought a permission from the chief secretary, Government of Maharashtra, to file a defamation case against chairman of the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) Agasti Kanitkar for the latter’s defamatory charges against him.

Bhatia in a letter to the chief secretary, cited newspaper reports which quoted Kanitkar making the charges against Bhatia that the enquiry report against him was biased. Bhatia had conducted the enquiry against Kanitkar and in his report conluded that Kanitkar was guilty of certain misconduct which had been alleged against him.

Bhatia said that the allegations made by Kanitkar clearly defamed him and questioned his honesty and efficiency. “I have conducted many enquiries and sent reports against senior level officers. The said allegations which have been reproduced will affect the credibility of these reports in the public mind and in the mind of those who read these reports”, Bhatia stated in his letter.

“The allegations made against me are not only false but are defamatory in character”, Bhatia said adding that he wished to file the suit for damanges and compensation for an amount of Rs 50 lakh. Bhatia said he also wished to request the court for passing a temporary injuction order restraining Kanitkar from making any such allegations.

Cop run over near Hadapsar
A forty-five year old police constable Shivaji Balbhim Shinde was killed when he was run over by an unidentified vehicle near Hadapsar on the Pune-Solapur road on Wednesday night.

Shinde was walking along the road from Bhairoba Nala towards Hadapsar when the speeding vehicle hit him. The mishap occurred at 11.30 pm. He succumbed to the injuries at Sassoon Hospital at 8 am on Thursday.

Shinde, a resident of Khadak police line, worked at various police stations during his service. In another mishap, a 62-year old pedestrian Vishnu Sakharam Dolas, was crushed under the wheels of a truck near Gadital in Mangalwar Peth on Wednesday evening.
