A large number of commuters found themselves stranded as the entire traffic came to a standstill after the scrap-laden tempo broke down around 7 p.m.

Vehicles heading in directions were diverted on a single track by the policemen from the nearby RTO chowk and the College of Engineering chowk.

A crane was summoned from Khadki to tow the stranded tempo. However, the snarl caused a delay in its arrival. The traffic returned to normal after the tempo was shifted about an hour later.

The corporation had shortlisted a total of 386 industrial units for shifting. However, a mere forty industries expressed their willingness to move. The project had been contemplated eight years ago when residents who faced problems due to the functioning of the industrial units appealed to the corporation to shift the industries. The details were worked out with the industrial associations after which the corporation acquired a plot admeasuring two hectares at T-block of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation at the rate of Rs 150 per sq meter from the MIDC after the corporation signed a lease deed.
