Bhatia fans call for referendum
Punekar Nagrik Kriti Samiti, which has launched an agitation for reinstatement of Arun Bhatia as the municipal commissioner, on Sunday decided to intensify its movement by conducting referendum over the issue in all parts of the city.

The meeting of the committee today chalked out its agitational programme for the next fortnight which also includes satyagraha, public meetings and signature campaign.

Former IAS officer Avinash Dharmadhikari told Pune Newsline after the meeting that referendum would raise four points — whether you want Bhatia back as municipal commissioner, whether you want the drive against illegal constructions and tax evasions, whether you want right to information and also a transparent policy on transfers of the government officials.

Dharmadhikari said the signature campaign and public meetings to awaken the masses would be continued simultaneously while conducting the referendum. He said he would also send a letter to Chief Minister Narayan Rane on Monday, requesting him to release the information on six points for the public knowledge.

Dharmadhikari said he, along with other activists, would undertake satyagraha, if Rane did not release the information. He said he would launch indefinite hunger strike from April 14 if the Government did not meet their demands.

Sinarmas is under check
A division bench of the Bombay High Court has asked National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) to check the effluent at multi-national company Sinarmas at Bhigvan in Indapur. The bench, comprising of Chief Justice Y K Sabharval and Justice Ajit Shah has ruled that the checking should be done by NCL instead of Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board. The bench issued the order during hearing of a public interest litigation filed by BJP leader Babasaheb Dhumal and journalist Prakash Bhoite.

The court had asked the NCL to check the water samples at Poundewadi, Madanwadi and Bori villages and submit its report within eight weeks.
