Power supply goes awry as links jilt city
Power supply in Pune city and district went haywire today as MSEB had to resort to excessive load shedding following urgent repair work between Chandrapur and Parali link.
Two of the three 400 KV lines between Chandrapur – Parali- Lonikand link had developed faults on the conductor as a result of which two-thirds power supply to the city and district was affected, V V Joshi, executive engineer MSEB (receiving division) told the Indian Express. The repair work will most probably be completed by evening, he hoped.
He said,“In order to compensate for the two-thirds deficiency of normal power supply load-shedding had to be carried out as an essential measure.” More so as the industries were closed today, there was no alternative but to resort to frequent load shedding in residential areas, he added.
Joshi, however, said that exact nature of the fault was not known as the fault had occurred under the operational area of Aurangabad MSEB. Besides Pune city and district, load shedding was also carried out in other districts including Kolhapur, Solapur and Sangli, he said.
Thursday being the scheduled day for load shedding, additional load shedding owing to repair of fault in Chandrapur Parali link further worsened the power supply situation in the city. Puneites braving the blistering heat of the sun were subjected to more discomfort as several localities in the city went without power for hours together.
Even as MSEB claimed that load shedding was withdrawn by 6 pm in the evening, the power supply, in many areas, continued to remain erratic till late evening.
