PUNE, July 18: Pune, the multi-faceted city known for its cultural ethos, its deep-rooted educational background, its role in the Indian freedom struggle and its recently acquired reputation of an industrial and a sports city, is all set to carve a niche for itself in the record books, literally.

The makers of Limca Book of Records are contemplating to credit Pune with the rare honour of being “the city of record holders” and including a special section in the ensuing edition of the Limca Book.

“It will be a record by itself. I doubt if any other city has such a large number of achievers, antiquarians and collectors of unusual items,” Deepak Aswadkar, a local coordinator for the Limca Book of Records said. A special section dedicated to Pune and its record holders is being thought of for the succeeding editions of the Limca Book of Records.

The latest edition of the Limca Book of Records 1997 mentions Pune for around 70 times, listing its people, monuments, buildings and a few firsts credited to this city which, historians say, dates back to AD 758.

Thirty-seven Puneites are in the Limca Book for their personal achievements along with certain institutions and places.
